On January 10, according to Reuters, Fox Corporation, the parent company of Fox News, failed to persuade the New York State Court of Appeals to dismiss the defamation claims made by the electronic voting system company Smartmatic in a $2.7 billion lawsuit. A panel of five judges from the Manhattan Appeal Court ruled on Thursday that Smartmatic adequately accused Fox's parent company of direct responsibility for statements made during the live televised broadcast, which insinuated that Smartmatic helped manipulate the 2020 USA presidential election to support Biden instead of Trump. Fox Corporation stated in a declaration that the company would prepare.
